Stainless steel was invented by a man named Harry Brearley in 1913. It was originally called rustless steel because it didn't corrode at the same rate as other metals, keeping its strength and smooth shine despite humid conditions or the effects of time. Soon, stainless steel was used to create medical instruments that were long-lasting and sanitary, and it was used in surgical implants. Stainless steel was also used for brewery and food production, storage of corrosive and toxic material, and implemented in the construction of trains and airplanes. Not only was stainless steel pivotal in industry, but it was also used in the home and can be found in sinks and washing machines today.

Stainless Steel in Jewelry

It wasn't until the 1980s that stainless steel became a popular choice for jewelry. Jewelry designers started to use it for its strength and resistance to corrosion and tarnishing. A stainless steel chain will outlast even gold or silver. It will hold up better under harsher conditions than any other kind of metal. Today, stainless steel jewelry is not only popular for its strength, but also for its beauty and for the fact that it is less likely to cause an allergic reaction than silver or nickel, so more people can wear it comfortably. Stainless steel has a slightly darker color than silver and can be polished or brushed just like silver. Stainless steel jewelry can come in just about any form, from rings and bracelets to necklaces and earrings. One popular stainless steel choice is a stainless steel chain necklace.

Wearing Stainless Steel Chain Necklaces

Stainless steel necklaces can come all in kinds of shapes, designs, and sizes, and there is one for any occasion.

Casual Saturdays:

A nice thin stainless steel necklace worn close to your neck looks great with a casual t-shirt, blouse, or sweater and a pair of jeans. The simplicity of a small chain means that it fits with just about anything.

Dressed to the Nines:

Stainless steel is not only great for casual wear, it is perfect for a night out or a party. Wear a longer and thicker chain with a black dress, for the stainless steel to really pop, or a thin chain with a suit instead of a tie for a look that makes a statement.

Bohemian Beach:

Stainless steel chains look great against your skin, and because they don't rust, you don't have to worry about getting them wet! Wear a dangling chain with a swimsuit or a breezy cover-up and a wide-brimmed hat for the perfect beach attire.
